Instructions
- Mince the garlic cloves finely.
- In a medium saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the minced garlic and sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to let it burn.
- Add tomato puree (or tomato passata) and tomato paste to the saucepan. Stir well to combine.
- Add the sugar (if using), dried oregano, dried basil, dried thyme, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using). Stir to combine all the ingredients.
- Bring the sauce to a gentle simmer. Reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the sauce has thickened to your desired consistency.
- Taste the sauce and adjust the seasoning with additional salt, pepper, or sugar as needed.
- Once the sauce is cooked and seasoned to your liking, remove it from the heat and let it cool slightly before using it on your pizza.
- Store any leftover sauce in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or freeze for up to three months. Enjoy your rich and flavorful Homemade Pizza Sauce!
