Dough Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
- In a mixing bowl, combine the apple sauce, oat flour, coconut oil, cinnamon, and cardamom. Mix until you get a soft dough.
- If the dough feels too sticky, add a little extra oat flour (1 tbsp at a time). If it feels too dry, add a small spoonful of apple sauce.
- Lightly dust your work surface with oat flour. Roll the dough to about 4–5mm thickness.
- Cut out cookies in any shape you like and place them on the prepared sheet pan.
- Bake for 12–15 minutes, until set and lightly golden at the edges (smaller shapes will bake faster).
- Cool completely before serving.
- Store in an airtight container: up to 3 days at room temperature, or up to 1 week in the fridge.
Notes
- Use unsweetened apple sauce if possible (simpler and more dog-friendly).
- Coconut oil should be soft, not rock-hard — if needed, warm it briefly so it mixes evenly.
- Bake time depends on cookie size: tiny cookies may be done at 12 minutes, larger ones closer to 15.
- For crunchier cookies (and longer storage), turn the oven off after baking and let them sit inside with the door slightly open for 15–20 minutes.
- As always, treats are treats — keep portions small, especially if your dog isn’t used to coconut oil or spices.
