Dough Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the apple sauce, oat flour, coconut oil, cinnamon, and cardamom. Mix until you get a soft dough.
  3. If the dough feels too sticky, add a little extra oat flour (1 tbsp at a time). If it feels too dry, add a small spoonful of apple sauce.
  4. Lightly dust your work surface with oat flour. Roll the dough to about 4–5mm thickness.
  5. Cut out cookies in any shape you like and place them on the prepared sheet pan.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes, until set and lightly golden at the edges (smaller shapes will bake faster).
  7. Cool completely before serving.
  8. Store in an airtight container: up to 3 days at room temperature, or up to 1 week in the fridge.

Notes

  • Use unsweetened apple sauce if possible (simpler and more dog-friendly).
  • Coconut oil should be soft, not rock-hard — if needed, warm it briefly so it mixes evenly.
  • Bake time depends on cookie size: tiny cookies may be done at 12 minutes, larger ones closer to 15.
  • For crunchier cookies (and longer storage), turn the oven off after baking and let them sit inside with the door slightly open for 15–20 minutes.
  • As always, treats are treats — keep portions small, especially if your dog isn’t used to coconut oil or spices.
