A delicious and savory flatbread topped with caramelized onions, vegan onion lard, and shredded vegan cheese. This flavorful dish is perfect for a satisfying meal, combining rich, sweet onions with melty cheese on a crispy base. Easy to prepare and enjoy, it's a great choice for lunch, dinner, or a tasty snack. Indulge in this plant-based twist on a classic flatbread.
Instructions
- In a skillet, heat a little olive oil over medium heat. Add the thinly sliced onions and cook, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized and golden brown. This will take about 15-20 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Set aside to cool slightly.
- Preheat your oven to 220°C (430°F). If using a pizza stone, place it in the oven to heat up as well. I'm using electric pizza oven for this recipe.
- Follow your pizza dough recipe to prepare the dough. Roll out the dough on a floured surface to your desired thickness for the flatbread.
- Spread a layer of vegan onion lard over the rolled-out dough. Evenly distribute the caramelized onions on top of the lard. Sprinkle the shredded vegan cheese over the onions.
- Transfer the assembled flatbread to a baking sheet or preheated pizza stone. Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes. Garnish with fresh herbs if desired. Slice and serve warm. Enjoy your savory Vegan Onion Flatbread!
