Soy Slices in Onion Gravy

Delicious marinated soy slices served in a rich and savory onion gravy, perfect over mashed potatoes or rice. This comforting dish is easy to prepare and full of flavor, making it an ideal choice for a cozy meal. Enjoy the tender soy slices combined with the deep, savory taste of onion gravy.

Instructions

  1. Cook the marinated soy slices. For air frying: Preheat the air fryer to 200°C (390°F). Spray the basket with olive oil and place the marinated slices in a single layer. Air fry for 10-15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  2. For pan frying: Heat a tablespoon of olive oil in a large pan over medium heat. Add the marinated soy slices and cook for 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown and crispy. Remove from the pan and set aside.
  3. Prepare the onion gravy. In the same pan (if pan-frying the slices), add 2 tablespoons of olive oil and heat over medium heat. Add the sliced onions and sauté until they are caramelized and golden brown, about 15-20 minutes. Stir frequently to prevent burning.
  4. Once the onions are caramelized, sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir well to coat.
  5. Gradually add the vegetable broth while stirring continuously to avoid lumps. Bring the mixture to a simmer and cook for another 5-7 minutes until the gravy thickens.
  6. Carefully transfer the onion mixture to a blender and blend until smooth. Alternatively, use an immersion blender directly in the pan.
  7. Return the blended gravy to the pan and add seasonings.
  8. Add the cooked marinated soy slices to the onion gravy, stirring to coat them well. Simmer for a few more minutes to heat everything through.
  9. Garnish with chopped fresh parsley if desired. Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or with a side of vegetables. Enjoy this savory and comforting dish!
