Banana-Coconut Dog Cookies

These Banana-Coconut Dog Cookies are a super simple homemade treat made with just a few pantry ingredients. They’re lightly sweet from ripe banana, packed with coconut flavor, and bake up into little crunchy bites (perfect for training treats or snack-time rewards). Cut them into hearts or any shape you like — your pup won’t judge the aesthetics, but you’ll probably love them.

Dough Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. Add the banana to a food processor and blend until smooth. Add the oat flour, coconut flour, and shredded coconut, then pulse until a dough forms.
  3. If the dough feels too wet or sticky, add a little extra oat flour (1 tbsp at a time) until it’s easy to handle.
  4. No food processor? Mash the banana well with a fork in a bowl, then mix in the flours and shredded coconut until a dough forms.
  5. Lightly dust your work surface with oat flour. Roll the dough to about 3–4mm thickness.
  6. Cut out small shapes (hearts are cute!) and place them on the prepared sheet pan with a little space between each.
  7. Bake for 10–12 minutes, until set and lightly golden around the edges.
  8. Remove from the oven and cool completely before serving.
  9. Store in an airtight container. For a crunchier cookie and longer storage, let them dry out fully after cooling, or keep them in the fridge.

Notes

  • Use very ripe bananas for the best flavor and easiest mixing.
  • Coconut flour absorbs a lot — if your dough feels dry, let it sit for 2–3 minutes before deciding to add anything.
  • Bake time depends on cookie size: smaller shapes may be done closer to 10 minutes.
  • For extra crunch (and longer shelf life), turn the oven off after baking and let the cookies sit inside with the door slightly open for 15–20 minutes.
  • Always make sure treats fit your dog’s diet needs; keep portions small if your pup isn’t used to coconut.
