Carrot Dog Cookies

These Carrot Dog Cookies are a simple homemade treat made with real carrots and pantry-friendly flours. The carrots are cooked until super soft, blended into a smooth purée, then mixed into an easy dough you can roll and cut into any shape. They bake up into lightly crunchy little cookies — perfect for snack time or as a cute reward.

Carrot Purée Instructions

  1. Peel the carrots, slice them into small pieces, and cook until very soft.
  2. Drain well and let the carrots cool completely.
  3. Add the cooked carrots to a food processor with the water and blend until you get a smooth purée.

Dough and Baking Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C and line a sheet pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the carrot purée with the oat flour, rice flour, salt, cinnamon, and thyme. Mix until a dough forms.
  3. If the dough feels sticky, add a little more oat flour (1 tbsp at a time). If it feels too dry, add a tiny splash of water.
  4. Lightly dust your work surface with oat flour. Roll the dough to about 4–5mm thickness.
  5. Cut out cookies in any shape you like and place them on the prepared sheet pan.
  6. Bake for 12–15 minutes, until set and lightly golden at the edges (smaller shapes bake faster).
  7. Cool completely before serving.
  8. Store in an airtight container: up to 3 days at room temperature, or up to 1 week in the fridge.

Notes

  • Cook the carrots until they’re very soft — it makes the purée smooth and the dough easier to work with.
  • Drain carrots well so the dough doesn’t get too wet; watery purée can make rolling tricky.
  • Fruit/veg moisture varies a lot, so adjust with small amounts of oat flour or water as needed.
  • For crunchier cookies (and longer storage), turn the oven off after baking and let them sit inside with the door slightly open for 15–20 minutes.
  • Keep treats small and adjust portions to your dog’s size and diet needs.
