Instructions

  1. Wash the strawberries and pat them dry with paper towels. Make sure they are completely dry before dipping them in chocolate to ensure the chocolate adheres properly.
  2. Chop the dark chocolate into small pieces for even melting.
  3. In a heatproof bowl, combine the chopped dark chocolate and 1 tablespoon of coconut oil (if using). The coconut oil helps the chocolate to be smoother and shinier but is optional.
  4. Melt the chocolate using a double boiler method: Place the bowl over a pot of simmering water, ensuring the bottom of the bowl does not touch the water. Stir frequently until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
  5. Hold each strawberry by the stem or use a skewer and dip it into the melted chocolate, swirling to coat evenly. Allow any excess chocolate to drip off.
  6. Place the dipped strawberry onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Allow the chocolate-covered strawberries to sit at room temperature until the chocolate sets. For faster setting, place the baking sheet in the refrigerator for about 15-20 minutes.
  8. Once the chocolate is set you can decorate them with melted white chocolate and the strawberries are ready to be served. Arrange them on a platter and enjoy immediately.
  9. Store any leftover chocolate-covered strawberries in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They are best enjoyed within 1-2 days.

Notes

  • Dry strawberries extremely well—any moisture can make the chocolate seize or slide off.
  • Keep the water in the pot at a gentle simmer; overheating can make chocolate grainy.
  • If the chocolate feels too thick, add a little more coconut oil (about 1 teaspoon at a time).
  • Chocolate-covered strawberries taste best the same day; refrigeration can cause condensation and softer berries.
